Having run in the OMMKamleika Jacket for the past year or so, I've found it to be an extremely useful and comfortable jacket to run in, and more often than not just on winter training runs. OMM (Original Mountain Marathon) has a great heritage with their OMM races and as such you'd expect the same with their running gear.
Obviously it comes out most when its raining, but I often use it on cold, dry runs for warmth and insulation. As yet I'm not a mountain marathon runner, although done some ultras in more controlled conditions(!), and found the jacket to be sufficient for those just as it is on the more regular training runs.
The 4-way stretch fabric works well by allowing movement without restriction or making that annoying flapping noise! I've found it to be more breathable than I thought it was going to be, still got a bit sweaty inside but not clammy. Perhaps that's partly due to their claim of the reduced air volume inside the jacket (due to the stretch fit) aiding the breathability. It also dries off pretty quickly after use when turning it inside out for a while.
The jacket comes with a hood (complete with a peak!) which I've hardly used, but knowing its there to put on should the need arise is comforting. Otherwise it sits comfortably rolled up. I'm not quite into Hoodie-Running just yet...
The adjustable Velcro tabbed cuffs are a nice touch to fine-tune any preference you may have of tightness around the wrist, good for keeping the sleeve over or behind a watch. A number of jackets are usually just elasticated in that area. On the odd wet run there's been a bit more moisture in the jacket than I would have liked; perhaps it crept in through the top of the jacket. But otherwise I remain mostly dry through wet runs. Obviously the taped seams and two-way water resistant zips assist greatly in this feature of the jacket.
The reflective detail offers some protection during darker runs while the large laminated torso pockets are conveniently large enough to fit most maps convenient for those races when the map is needed, then it isn't, then it is! The jacket will roll up into a small bundle to pack away easily into a back or waist pack. It's a Unisex product but I haven't found that to affect the fit on me.
A great, all-round jacket for all types of running. The back or shoulders doesn't appear to be scuffed or damaged when running with a backpack on in particular the OMM 10 litreLast Drop bag and the OMM 25l Classic, but that's for another article!
